The Flamenco sounds of

Solo Spanish Guitar

Before he began playing flamenco, Stephen was already also an accomplished classical guitarist and composer.

He studied classical guitar at the New England Conservatory of Music and earned an M.A. in composition from San Francisco State University where he was awarded the Frampton award for excellence in contemporary music.<

His insightful performances of classical music, particularly the music of Spain, complement his work as a flamenco artist.<

Stephen is one of the best guitarists that I have ever seen. He owns that instrument and it sings for him in every key, note, beat and chord that he plays.

Grana'ina
A Grana'ina is a form of fandango from the city of Granada. I learned this selection from José Antonio Rodriguez in another beautiful city in Spain, Córdoba. Rodriguez is one of the leading young contemporary flamenco guitarists in Spain. He is featured in Carlos Saura's filmFlamenco.

Que Lindo

I wrote this piece in tribute to the guitarist whose recordings inspired me to take up the classical guitar, Brazilian guitarist Laurindo Almeida. I had the pleasure of interviewing Laurindo for Acoustic Guitar magazine and learned that his nickname around the house was Lindo. This piece has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition.

Recuerdos de la Alhambra

Like the Grana'ina above, this piece recalls the city of Granada, in this case the Alhambra, the magnificent Moorish palace and fortress overlooking the city.

Stephen is available as a soloist for concerts and special events including weddings, corporate events and private parties.
